Tanuj Virwani, talks with Subhash K Jha about his hero, his mother Rati Agnihotri, in a special Mother’s Day interview.
How would you describe your relationship with your mother (Rati Agnihotri)?
She’s my friend. My confidante. My rock. At this age and juncture, she’s both a parent and a dear friend.
What are your childhood memories of your mom?
As a child, I have vivid memories of her being the perfect mom and homemaker. Getting me ready for school, helping with my homework and tuitions, instilling certain values which have held me in good stead. Making sure I am mindful of my words and their impact. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and diet. Being very sporty.
When was the first time you realized your mom was a star?
I realised she was a star once when I was 10. We had landed at Heathrow, and a lot of people were going crazy calling her Sapna, the character she played in Ek Duuje Ke Liye.
Did you resent sharing your star-mom with the rest of the world?
Not at all. I am happy to share her with the rest of the world; she’s a national treasure, according to me.
What is your equation with her now, at this point in time?
We have a fantastic equation: clear, honest, and extremely healthy. Best part is she never preaches. Always makes me see reason. She’s an absolute darling of a grand mom and showers my daughter Navya with a lot of love, which makes me very, very happy.
