Former Miss Surat, the sultry Namitha continues building a flexible career in the regional film industries and has also appeared in an English-language film, Maya. Her next big film is likely to be 1977 opposite Sarath Kumar.
Namitha first shot to fame in Engel Anna, which also starred Vijayakanth and progressed to other well-received movies such as Englishkaran, Kovai Brothers and Billa.
How does karate-loving Namitha feel about being described as a glamour doll? “Glamour is part of filmdom. Yet, you cannot brand me as a glamour puss. Glamour can be portrayed within the limits of decency,” she says, “We cannot forget that our world is still traditional and so is our culture and we should not go beyond that.”
But Namitha may not be as traditional as it first appears. In a recent interview, she stated that she had no belief in the bond of marriage, that it was just a social convention. She argued that if she was truly in love with someone, she would start a relationship with him even if he wouldn’t marry her.
