Pretty TV actress Narayani Shastri has opted to launch her Bollywood career with a de-glam look for the comedy Na Ghar Ke, Na Ghat Ke which will also star Paresh Rawal and Om Puri. “While shooting for the film, I felt like I was leading a dual life,” she says, “The role required me to be completely different from what I am. I am looking forward to this because I am the only female in the otherwise male-dominated flick.”
Narayani is perhaps best known from television from the title role in Zee TV’s Mamta and most strikingly as Abhay’s wicked wife Tashu in Sony TV’s Kkusum. She recently stepped in to replace an unwell Katrina Kaif for a guest appearance on Bindaas Big Switch. “Narayani Shastri was a last minute replacements,” said a spokesman for the show, “Though we were aware of Katrina’s frail health we kept thinking that the actress would make it till we were informed that she had to back out.”
Narayani is pleased that her career is moving towards Bollywood as she feels standards have fallen in television recently. “No one is indispensable and replacement is quick,” she says, “Actors don’t even bother to talk to the actors they are replacing in shows. Professionalism has plummeted. And to top it all, everyone wants to do television!”
