The one thing that could safely be said about Season 2 of this uneven adaptation of John Le Carre’s espionage mind-bender , is that Tom Hiddleston makes a far more persuasive spy than Aditya Roy Kapoor who starred in the Indian adaptation , which was not bad.

Season 2 of BBC’s Night Manager has me wondering why do we need this? More of the same , would be an exaggeration. This thoroughly redundant sequel has eyecatching locations and a very stunning leading lady Camila Morrone who knows her powers as a seductress.

Morrone apart, the second season is moronic, juiceless, and, well, almost useless. Hiddleston tries his best to keep the plot from sagging. But like breast enhancement, you can only do this much with what you’ve got.

The artificially lifted scenario shifts to Colombia where the drug-dealing stereotypes are in full bloom. I seriously feel showing Mexico as a drug paradise must stop. It is as much of cliché as showing Kashmir as the hub of militancy. Move on, guys.

And that goes for the serial-fillers who cling to the same content, season to season.

The antagonist this time is a drug dealer Teddy dos Santos (Diego Calva) who looks as menacing as any drug dealer in any of the zillion serials and films. He lives in a house that tempts me to become a drug dealer. He also happens to be incredibly stupid. Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston) infiltrates the dreaded criminal’s life, steals his sexy girlfriend for night-time flings, and the evil schemer remains oblivious.

Asininity is common to cinema across the world.
