It was almost five years back when Nikkhil Advani had last directed a feature film. It was a highly dramatic Batla House featuring John Abraham in the lead, which was a hit at the box office and brought in almost 100 crores. The year was 2019, when different genres were really working well in theatres, though the scenario changed a year later with the pandemic, and the focus shifted more towards high-decibel action films, something that struck with full throttle in 2023 with the arrival of Pathaan, Gadar 2, Jawan and Animal.

Circa 2024, and Nikkhil is now coming up with his first ever out-and-out action film, Vedaa. Yet again, he has paired up with John Abraham for the film. Apart from Batla House, he has also directed the actor in Salaam-e-Ishq, while also producing Satyameva Jayate, which boasts of the biggest opening ever for the actor as a main lead.

What makes the film all the more special is that this isn’t a remake of any South movie and is an original Hindi movie. So far, it has only been the poster reveal of the film with both John Abraham and leading lady Sharvari in intense avatars. Also, it appears that the film has a rugged feel to it, with raw action on display. Considering that Nikkhil has shot some stylish action sequences in Batla House and D-Day, where it was much more realistic, it would be interesting to see how Vedaa pans out.

The film is special for John Abraham as last year he won a lot of accolades for his performance as Jim in Pathaan. In fact, right through the year, there have been calls for a spin-off to be made around his character, and while one waits to see if that happens indeed, for now, it’s his return to an out-and-out action avatar as a leading man with Vedaa. He has been known for his action persona, and this one should further enhance when seen at the big screen.

As for Sharvari, it would be a relaunch of sorts since her Bunty aur Babli 2 was a delayed release and had arrived during the pandemic, and while she was seen in a comedy genre there, with action and drama as the forefront of Vedaa, it would be a new experience for her as well as the audience.

While the announcement posters have set the stage for the Emmay production, it’s also quite clear that action is going to rule the roost in 2024 as well. The film is still a few months away as it releases on 12th July. However, what’s quite apparent here is that Vedaa is going to be a big-screen experience for sure, with Nikkhil and John promising to bring on yet another entertainer after Batla House and Satyameva Jayate.
