Kangana Ranaut, despite her soaring success in the industry, has never managed to impress the viewers with her pronounciation of English. Even with her award winning performance in Fashion she was criticized for the way she pronounced the word ‘bastard’, a dialogue she was required to say over and over again throughout the film! However, it looks like that may be the last of Kangana’s bad English that we’ll hear as the actress has been working hard for the past 3 months to improve her pronounciation. What’s more is that she claims that the fact that she was the butt of all jokes because of her pronunciation, was not motivation to correct it.

The actress has always been game to reveal just why her English isn’t up to the marks. She hails from a small town in Himanchal Pradesh and upon moving to Mumbai even though she was apt in English, her pronunciation was not. She has now taken up the task to perfect the language and approaches it through first learning grammar. Kangana says that reading forms a large part of her learning process.

“I have been working on my pronunciation. If I don’t learn, I will be a dumb person. But Nawaz [Her English tutor] is still not happy with my progress. Whenever we meet, she records my voice and makes me hear it. She has taught me how to roll my R’s properly like a Britisher. You can say I am acting in a real-life version of My Fair Lady! Today, Bollywood is big in USA and I want to talk confidently when I am there. I want to communicate and reach out to them. Language is the only way,” says the actress.

However English is not the only language on the cards for the actress, she also plans to learn French. “I was at a total loss when I visited Italy last year. A couple of times I landed up at the wrong places because I didn’t speak or understand Italian. I was to go to the Coliseum but ended up somewhere completely different! Another time I was to go to Venice and went to some place called Venezia. I was so scared and almost in tears. That’s when I decided that I had to learn the language of the country I visit. I am learning French today as I plan to visit it sometime this year.”

Kangana will be next seen in Milan Luthria’s Once Upon a Time in Mumbai (now titled Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, due to astrology reasons). The film is set to release on 30th of July and also stars Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hasmi and Prachi Desai in lead roles.
