The Fifth Annual Central European Bollywood Awards were announced on March 8th and Farah Khan’s Om Shanti OM came out the big winner. Announced in Munich at the Second International Bollywood-Blogger meeting, the awards are hosted by a Swiss website, molodezhnaja.ch along with bollywoodforum.ch. The awards are decided by votes cast within central Europe from January until March 7th.
Om Shanti Om not only won awards for Best Special Effects, Best Art Direction and Best Costumes, the film also took home the prize for Best Choreography for ‘Dhoom Tana’.
OSO also came away 3 of the 4 music awards: Best Music: Vishal-Shekhar, Best Song: ‘Dastaan-E-Om Shanti Om’, and Best Male Singer: Sonu Nigam for ‘Main Agar Kahoon’. Deepika Padukone was awarded the Breakthrough Role (female) for her performance. The blockbuster also took home the two biggest prizes that of Best Director for Farah Khan and Best Film.
Guru also was honored with 5 awards including: Best Female Singer: Shreya Ghoshal for ‘Barso Re’, Best Script, Best Supporting Actor: Mithun Chakraborty, Best Supporting Actress: Vidya Balan and Best Actress: Aishwarya Rai.
The Best Actor Category went to Shah Rukh Khan for his amazing performance in Chak De India. Chak De India also won awards for Best Cinematography and Best Editing.
Vikram Chatwal won the award Breakthrough Performance Male for his role in Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.
The Best Couple award went to the jodi of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor for Jab We Met.
In an interesting category not usually seen, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag was awarded the Most Disappointing Film.
