London, New York and of course, the metropolitan cities of India are the common chosen destinations for film premieres, but Aamir Khan as always chooses to travel the path less travelled, and has zeroed down on Melbourne for the premiere of Peepli Live. The main reason for the choice is that film will not just be premiered, but also be featured in the Melbourne Film Festival, which begins on July 22nd.
The film will be screened under the category of ‘Not Quite Bollywood’ along with four other films from Hindi cinema. Mitu Lange, the sole distributor of the film in New Zealand and Australia announced the news to the media and also divulged the plan to distribute the film as ‘World Cinema’ rather than Bollywood. Hence the choice to feature the film under the ‘Not Quite Bollywood’ category, which is said to showcase films of Indian cinema that don’t support the usual trend of glitz and glamour. At present distribution is being given to Hoyts cinemas, however talks continue with other theatres that are known to support world cinema such as Cinema Nova and Palace.
Peepli Live is being directed by Anusha Mani, stars Omkar Das, Raghuvir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Naseerudin Shah and Malaika Shenoy. The film is being produced by the proud banner of Aamir Khan productions and opens in theaters on August 13th.
