Amongst the countless new directors emerging in Indian Cinema, another new director is getting ready to attempt to win audiences and leave his mark. Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad debuts with the crossover film, Perfect Mismatch which is the official selection for the South Asian Film Festival and Cinequest Film Festival. A romantic/family comedy, Perfect Mismatch stars Boman Irani (Munna Bhai), Anupum Kher (A Wednesday), Nandana Sen (Black) and newcomer Anubhav Anand. Music has been given by Josh (Rup and Q) who sing all the 6 tracks in the album while the lyrics has been penned by Kumaar and Q.
Bhangra Pa Laiye, the track which has been showcased in the film’s promos. The traditional Punjabi music and the lyrics make it a nice Bhangra number to tap your feet to. Josh’s vocals are a delight as always.
Next is the film’s title song, It’s a Mismatch. Unlike its predecessor, the track is a contemporary track with a Punjabi flavour to it and Hindi lyrics. The chorus of the track is rather catchy, while the lyrics are simple and nice. The song also appears as a remix at the end of the album, which is equally entertaining as the original.
Jaan Hai Tumse. The beautiful acoustic guitars and the delightful flutes combined with Josh’s brilliant vocals make this romantic track one of the best tracks of the album. It is a classic Josh number in that it is easy listening, soothing with nice lyrics. The music is just the right mix of contemporary and traditional Indian. All in all it is a heart-warming number.
‘Jaan Hai Tumse’ is followed Nasha Hi Nasha, a sweet, foot-tapping, romantic number. Again Josh’s vocals against the mixture Punjabi and contemporary creates sheer beauty. The simple yet effective lyrics add to the song’s likeability.
Dhol Dhol Baja Zara, another Punjabi dance number in the same line as ‘Bhangra Pa Laiye’. The dhols give this celebratory number its winning touch while Josh’s enthusiastic vocals add more to the celebration.
In summary, it goes without saying that Josh has to be commended on their ability to create any genre of music, whether it is contemporary, traditional or an amalgamation of both. No doubt after Perfect Mismatch music enthusiasts will be left hankering for more from this dynamic duo. Perfect Mismatch is a really good album, with ‘Jaan Hai Tumse’ and ‘Nasha Hi Nasha’ being its top numbers followed by the title track, ‘Bhangra Pa Laiye’ and ‘Dhol Dhol Baja Zara’. The last two may be said to be clich
