This Friday, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, starring Rani Mukerji, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kunal Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan opens in theaters. There have been a lot of rumors swirling about this exciting film and director Pradeep Sarkar put many of the rumors to rest in a recent interview.

One of the biggest rumors being reported and talked about was the there were problems between Abhishek and Rani. Also being reported was that when Aishwarya came to visit her husband on the sets she was not so nice to Rani. Sarkar said, “There was no tension at all between Rani and Abhishek. I don’t know where these rumours originate from. Contrary to what is being said about there being cold vibes on the sets due to Aishwarya’s (Rai) presence, she was in fact a big help to me. Aishwarya was always ready with an input or two, or even helping out to get things ready for the shoot.”

Sarkar made Laaga Chunari Mein Daag under the Yash Raj Banner, which was a bit of a surprise because his debut film, Parineeta, was under the watchful eye of Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It was rumored that Chopra was upset at this decision to move to Yash Raj. However, “Vinod has seen the promos and the rushes of the film and he told me that he loved them. It is not like I deserted anyone. Adi (Chopra) narrated the story to me and I loved it. I wanted to direct the film, and Yash Raj is a great production to work with,” Sarkar said.

Speaking of Parineeta, originally Vidya Balan was to play the role that Konkona Sen Sharma essays in the film. There was much talk about the fact that Sarkar was unhappy with Vidya. In fact, even Vidya says that she feels he is still angry with her because she had to back out of doing the role. “How can one be angry with one’s own daughter? Vidya had date problems, so she could not do the film. I was a bit taken aback, that’s it,” Sarkar clarifies. Adding that he hopes one day to work with her again, “If her dates permit.”

Sarkar adds that he is thrilled with the performance of Konkona in the film, “She is brilliant in the film. Her look, her sensitivity, her approach to playing her character is so good! I have absolutely no regrets about taking her on to play the role of Chutki. Of course, Vidya would have done it her way, and Konkona has done in her own unique style.”

With such a stellar cast, great music and a promo that makes you sit up and take notice we are really looking forward to the film’s release on Friday!
