Releasing on September 11 is the highly anticipated psychological drama Haiwaan. The Priyadarshan-directed film features incredibly strong roles for both Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, challenging roles to sink their teeth into — Saif plays a blind hero, and Akshay, the dark character in the tale. Did we say we were intrigued? We so are!

First, let’s set the stage and amp up the intrigue with the trailer… In case you missed it!

Akshay Kumar talked about his new character in a recent interview: “I am playing Haiwaan and my character has no grey shades; he’s out and out evil. I always wanted to play a psycho on-screen. With my last four-five films, I have tried to switch between completely different genres: comedy, horror, action, drama. This is my first time playing evil in the truest sense. I like to constantly challenge myself, and Haiwaan is that challenge for me.”

Director Priyadarshan adds, “I remember I was narrating the story of Haiwaan to him one day, knowing he will not do it, and asked who does he think would do the role. I was shocked when he asked me, ‘Can I do it?’ I also then thought I would have a different Akshay Kumar in my film; it will be a chance to see an actor’s potential.”

Akshay added, “Shooting with Priyadarshan for the last two years has given me so much newfound love for my work. He is like medicine for the working side of my soul.”

Speaking to Subhash K Jha, Saif Ali Khan revealed, “It’s the best role I’ve had in ages, if not ever! It’s a very heroic part. He is blind, but not at all helpless. He is out to save a little girl.”

Adding, playing a blind man had its challenges but, “I got the simplest and most wonderful piece of direction—Priyan told me, ‘Open your eyes wide and pretend you can’t see.’ I think with practice it became easier. We didn’t overthink it. I haven’t seen the film, so I can’t tell you how I’ve done, but I really enjoyed trying. It was a really fun adventure every day. The part with the action, given the special abilities he has, was great fun. The trick was to play him as quite normal, even understated.”

About working with Saif, Akshay said, “Saif is the hero, I’m the villain, so instead of trying to help each other get out of trouble, we’re trying to create as much trouble for each other as possible! For me, I get to work every day with my dear old friend Saif. I would choose that opportunity over a solo hero film any day.”

Now let’s expand the world with two of the songs!

The first track released was ‘Mere Hero Hai Woh’. A heartfelt ode to every father whose love, strength, and unwavering support make him our first and forever hero. Composed & produced by Pritam, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, the song is brilliantly sung by Shaan & Vanika Nayak

We then have the newest song drop. The soulful ‘Rangiyara’ brings to life the tale of love, hope and togetherness that turns life’s chaos into a beautiful journey. Once again, composed by Pritam, the song features vocals by Shaan, Sukhwinder Singh & Romy with lyrics by Yatindra Mishra plus English Lyrics by Thomson Andrews.

Also featuring Shriya Pilgaonkar, Saiyami Kher, Rajpal Yadav, Sharib Hashmi, Rajesh Sharma, Pahal Chaudhary & Manoj Josh, the drama releases on September 11th. We are so ready for it!
