This weekend is an absolute cruncher for Priyanka Chopra. So far this year, she’s had three strikes against her with the dismal Love Story 2050 looking like a bad flashback from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century; the depressing God Tussi Great Ho being a completely humourless and pointless rip-off of Bruce Almighty and that other instantly forgettable movie with Bobby Deol whose name is hard to remember!
She has three more to come this year – Drona, Dostana and Fashion – and they all have to be hits if she’s going to finish the year with a winning average. She plays different roles in all three of them – which does she prefer? “Now that’s a tough one,” she says, “I loved doing the action sequences in Drona even thought they often left me bruised, but I equally enjoyed being a model in Fashion. And working on Dostana was awesome too, so it’s really difficult to choose one. All three are very different characters. I think the only common thread is that they are all strong women and that’s interesting.”
But back to this weekend and the head-to-head with Kidnap. Which movie will prevail. Kidnap has the latest superstar Imran Khan who grabbed all our attention with his debut performance in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. It also stars Minissha Lamba who’s having a good year after Bachna Ae Haseeno. Meanwhile, on Priyanka’s team, we have Abhishek Bachchan, rapidly becoming one of our most accomplished actors and Kay Kay Menon, who has been given the freedom to inject all the venom he likes into his villainous role. One question already being asked, however, is whether Abhi actually looks tough enough to be a hero? We shall see.
Priyanka is always extremely careful about her drop-dead gorgeous appearance, but I’m prepared to bet that in anticipation for this weekend she must be nervously biting away at her nails. So don’t be surprised to see her nails beginning to look a bit ragged!
