Are you busy this Thursday? If not, the place to be is Dubai, which is rapidly becoming Mumbai’s little gulf sister – except perhaps somewhat richer. This Thursday sees the opening of the latest prestige project in the emirate, Atlantis – the Palm Resort! And just about everyone who’s anyone will be there for the opening bash.
Amongst the entertainers will be Priyanka Chopra, Nawal, Kylie Minogue, Janet Jackson, Lindsay Lohan and Lily Allen; and amongst the guests will be Michael Jordan, Petra Nemcova, Tom Cruise, Charlize Theron, Naomi Campbell, Agyness Deyn, Michael Jackson, Madonna, the Beckhams and Mallika Sherawat. There are 2000 guests in all.
There will be a record-breaking fireworks display – seven times bigger than the Olympic Games – followed by a son et lumiere, introduced by Priyanka as the Goddess of Atlantis. Following this, the guests will retire to an Afterglow Party.
Security for the event is extremely tight with local residents being placed under virtual house arrest from 4pm until 6am on the Friday morning. Needless to say, some are not too happy about it.
