Until Thursday the day of release, producer Deepak Mukut was struggling to get screens for his horror-comedy The Bhootnii.
Angry and helpless Deepak Mukut who has in the past produced such notable films as Sanam Teri Kasam, Mulk, Taish and Thank God, lashes out at the unfair business practices which gives certain powerful business houses a monopolistic advantage during release.
Says Deepak, “Unfortunately, we were desperately fighting for shows in cinema till the last minute. The big production houses have become like the mafia, doing gunda-gardi to wangle all the primetime shows while the smaller producers are left with practically nothing. They are not giving us an opportunity to perform , they are killing our film’s chances even before release. This is very very unfortunate for the Indian film industry specially to Bollywood.”
This is not the first time that a producer has come forward to complain about the monopolistic practices of the big production houses. The solution according to trade experts,is to allow a fair opportunity to the smaller producers and not squeeze them in a corner.
