Purab Kohli talks with Subhash K Jha about losing his dear friend Mukul Dev.
Purab, losing a friend is never easy?
I still can’t believe Mukul is gone, just like that! What can one say about Mukul? My gosh, it was such a shock when I heard that he passed on the 23rd.
How long were you two friends?
Mukul and me have been friends since we shot JAL together back in 2010 and 2011. And because we don’t live in the same city, we’ve not been that much in touch. But whenever we’ve hung out, and we have hung out quite a lot through the last 12-15 years.
The two of you were working on a project?
We were working on something together, a writing project, both of us, and we jammed a lot on that. And what can I say about him? I mean, he was truly an extremely talented human being. Very creative human being, and had some amazing energy.
Everyone close to Mukul speaks of his laughter?
Ya, Subhash. His laughter, that’s the first thing that rang in my head when I heard he passed away. His hearty laugh, you know, he had such an amazing voice, amazing laughter, such a creative mind, and just bursting with creativity, and I will surely miss him a lot.
When was the last time you met him?
I wish I had met him in more recent times. I haven’t seen him for the last couple of years. And that was another thing I felt as soon as I heard of his passing. Why didn’t I meet him in recent times? I really miss him, and I really truly will miss him, miss his company. And yeah, I was extremely saddened by his passing. His laughter still rings in my ears.
