Some jodi’s in Bollywood almost seem made in heaven. And once their combination is seen, loved and creates magic in the form of a hit film, it is used again…and again…and again. For the most part, we can understand why super hit jodi’s work. Critics will talk about great chemistry, fans will gush about how they look incredible together and of course, the star in question will claim it was the comfort level that allowed them to perform so well. We’ve heard it all. The newest jodi to hit the silver screen will be seen in Anjaana Anjaani: Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. The duo come together for the first time and has already created waves as fans are curious to see if this first-time couple will become yet another dhaamal jodi. However, while some are made in heaven, others are ones that cease to exist or never seem to happen. And of course, we can’t help but question why not?
For example, why haven’t we seen the likes of Aamir Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan together? She has starred with the two other Khans, Shah Rukh and Salman. And has also managed to bag Best Actress awards for both her films with the actors ala Devdas and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. One can only wonder why they haven’t starred together in a film yet considering that both of them happen to figure amongst the biggest film stars in the country.
John Abraham and Kareena Kapoor is a pairing that came close to being but never materialized. It all started with Bebo having serious issues with Bipasha Basu on the sets of Ajnabee which was followed by Basu’s beau, John claiming that Kareena wasn’t an actress he wanted to work with and Bebo claiming he was wooden faced. Phew! Amongst all the drama, there were opportunities for duo to come together but some things are never meant to be and neither were John and Kareena.
For the life of me, I cannot fathom why no directors haven’t signed on Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif together! And I mean romantically opposite one another. Yes, they will be seen as a part of an ensemble cast in Zoya Akhtar’s Zindago Milegi Na Dobara. But who wants to see that? One can only imagine the amount on beauty that would exist if the duo came together. Talk about aesthetical cinema! Granted their genres of cinema are poles apart, but it would be nice to see Hrithik do something more light-hearted or perhaps give Katrina another shot at trying her hand at cinema that is a tad-bit more serious.
And while we’re talking about being unable to understand why no filmmakers have signed on certain stars, why hasn’t anyone thought of taking on Deepika Padukone with Salman Khan? Perhaps the height problem? But that really can be solved with a pair of flats. Salman has been paired across actresses from all genres and ages throughout his career. This jodi needs to happen and soon!
Shah Rukh Khan has already been a part of a number of films that spoke about jodi’s that were made in heaven: Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. For now, none of the above jodi’s have been considered or appeared on screen yet. Perhaps our casting directors need some advice? Inspiration? Or maybe just be told by us! While we love our Kajols and Shah Rukhs, our Johns and Bipashas, we want more and new!
