On Thursday 14 July, BBC Asian Network will broadcast the very special Sonia Deol in Conversation with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The event, which was filmed on 11 July at the BBC Radio Theatre in front of a live audience, will be broadcast on Sonia’s show (10am-12.30pm).
Trained in the art of classical music and Qawwali, Rahat has taken the legacy forward by singing in over 40 Bollywood releases. His career has given him some of the biggest hits over the past decade, with films such as Paap (Mann Ki Lagan), Kalyug (Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye), Singh Is Kinng (Teri Ore), as well as last year’s smash hit from Dabangg (Tere Mast Mast Do Nain). In 2010, he won ‘Best International Act’ at the UK Asian Music Awards.
Sonia Deol will be taking Rahat on a journey through his successful career – from performing with his uncle Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his rise in Bollywood to his recent detention in India.
The BBC Asian Network is the official radio partner for Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s UK Tour and will be broadcasting exclusive music performances and behind-the-scenes footage throughout June and July, with Sonia Deol hosting each concert. A Red Button Interactive TV special is planned for later this year.
