Rahul Bose recently teamed up with Scarlett Johannson for an event in New York. Both actors are global ambassadors for Oxfam and Rahul took the trouble to praise his partner. “It is easy to just lend your name to a cause and forget about it,” he said, “The real test is to actually execute your presence and to see that the funds are used for that particular cause. I admire Scarlett and several other celebrities for that.”
Rahul showed a short documentary film he had made about street kids at the event. “The short film is about street kids and is a very factual projection of the children who do not have access to health and education in India,” explained Rahul, “India has around 836 million people who live in relative poverty and very high maternal and infant mortality rates,” he added.
As well as being an international rugby player, Rahul is known as a social activist who was praised for the depth of his response to the 2004 tsunami. He lectured on gender equality and human rights in Oxford at the 2004 World Youth Peace Summit. He also has an impressive string of film credits behind him including Everybody Says I’m Fine, Mr & Mrs Iyer, Chameli, Pyaar Ke Side Effects and was recently seen in Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam and Tahaan.
Danish-American Scarlett Johannson has appeared in left-of-field movies such as Ghost World, Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Black Dahlia, The Prestige and with Israeli actress Natalie Portman in The Other Boleyn Girl. Scarlett has recently been campaigning for presidential candidate Barack Obama.
