It looks like S S Rajamouli’s Varanasi is far more ambitious in scope than his previous epic RRR, which was set in colonial India. The new film reportedly moves across several time zones, signalling a large-scale narrative shift.
A VFX company, Cinesite, briefly posted the film’s synopsis on its website, describing the story of a Shiva devotee on a perilous journey across time to uncover a powerful cosmic artifact. As the narrative unfolds, the protagonist discovers a deeper, more dangerous truth behind his mission.
Sources close to the project confirmed that the film does involve time travel. “It is a time travel film though nothing like what you’ve seen in Back To The Future or The Time Machine.”
