We have learned that the powerhouse actor was the first and only choice to play the role of Farhan Akhtar aka Toofaan’s boxing coach. It is their relationship that establishes both the emotional conflict and bonding in the sports drama’s narrative.
Toofan tells the story of Farhan Akhtar as a reformed goon who seeks to make a name for himself in the sport of boxing. The drama takes audiences on a journey of his fall and triumphant comeback against all odds.
With Toofaan, both Rawal and the director share mutual admiration and respect for each other and hope to entertain audiences with a universally inspiring story.
The director says, “Once the story was ready many names came up. The perception was having someone more athletic to essay the role of a boxing coach. But I felt very strongly that Paresh Rawal was my first and last choice provided the dates and logistics fell in place. I was absolutely thrilled to have him on board; he is one of the pillars of the film.”
With all praise for the actor, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra adds, “Paresh sir was a masterclass in acting on set. Whenever he would perform in front of the camera, I would forget I’m the director and become a student of cinema just watching him and his approach.”
Toofaan also stars Mrunal Thakur, Supriya Pathak Kapur and Hussain Dalal. With Story and Screenplay by Anjum Rajabali and music by Shankar, Ehsann and Loy, the inspirational sports drama produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra & Farhan Akhtar will premiere on Amazon Prime Video – 21st May 2021.
