After claiming the National Awards, Southscope Awards and much of the Box office for what seems like close to a year, rumours of the Telugu blockbuster Magadheera being remade in Hindi started to float about in the Bollywood circuit. Names were dropped left, right and centre including Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and the film’s original male lead Ram Charan Teja was talked about being retained and making his debut in Hindi. As a film that begins in today’s times but shifts to the life of a warrior of a Mughal Dynasty, the dual role has also been rumoured to be split with 2 actors playing the different eras.
Now insiders have spilled the beans and it seems we finally have a name, one that hasn’t been mentioned before, Ranbir Kapoor. “Ranbir was floored by the concept of the warrior in the Mughal dynasty. He has never done a costume drama before. As a child, his favourite film used to be a fantasy film called Rani Aur Lalparee,” says an inside sources to Mid Day.
After a dismal affair with Anjaana Anjaani, Ranbir is also looking to get back on track with his next Imitaz Ali’s Rockstar and then followed by Anurag Basu’s Barfee.
Getting back to the Magadheera remake, while hopes are set for a repeat in history a la Ghajini, Producer Madhu Manthena is reluctant to elaborate with a simple statement, “At the moment, it is too early to comment”.
We will let you know what is going on with this exciting project as things develop so watch this space for more!
