After Wanted and Dabanng turning out to be both blockbusters and chartbusters, Salman Khan is set to woo the audiences again in Aneez Bazmee’s Ready, a remake of a Telugu hit of the same name.

While Dabanng and Wanted had the hot-blooded duo of Sajid-Wajid in the music directors’ chairs, Ready has Pritam (Race, Jab We Met and Thank You) in charge of its music. So does he live up to the standards set by the dynamic combination of Salman Khan and Sajid-Wajid, we hope so. Let’s find out.

The album consists of 8 tracks, arguably 4, since the remaining 4 are remixes of the first 4 tracks. Lyrics have been penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya, Neelesh Misra, Ashish Pandit, and Kumaar. The album features the vocals talents of Neeraj Shridhar (‘Twist’ – Love Aaj Kal and ‘Papa Jag Jayega’ – Houseful), Amrita Kak (‘Just Chill’ – Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and ‘Love Me Love Me’ – Wanted), Tulsi Kumar (‘Tum Jo Aye Zingadi Mein’ – Once Upon a Time in Mumbai), KK (‘Khuda Jaane’ – Bachna Ae Haseeno), Mika Singh (‘Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo’ – Thank You and ‘Mauja’ – Jab We Met) and Rahet Fateh Ali Khan (‘Tere Mast Mast Do Nain’ – Dabanng and ‘Teri Ore’ – Singh is King).

Ready also stars Asin, Paresh Rawal and Mahesh Manjekar and hits cinemas on 3 June 2011.

The albums kicks off in true Pritam style with Character Dheela, a loud and energetic number by Neeraj and Amrita with very witty lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The shennais and drums just make you want to get up and dance while the melody is very contagiously catchy. So watch out. ‘Character Dheela’ has also been remixed by DJ A-Myth who has essentially quickened the pace of the track with no other apparent changes. If you like you music to be as fast as the speed of light, this one is for you.

The album slows down with Humko Pyaar Hua, a nice romantic number sung by KK and Tulsi Kumar. Neelesh Misra’s lyrics are no different from your average love song but KK sings the words with great emotion making the song worth your while. Tulsi’s voice sounds very young and shrill and seems at odds with KK&’s vocals. Shreya Ghosal or Sunidhi Chauhan would have been a better choice for this duet. Musically, the song reminds you another Pritam composition, ‘Pehli Nazar Mein’ from Race, but all in all it is a very pleasant number if you do not mind Tulsi’s vocals. DJ A-Myth’s remix just takes away everything that makes ‘Humko Pyaar Hua’ likable so listeners are better of ignoring this remix.

Next is Dhinka Chika, a loud desi number composed by guest composer Devi Sri Prasad (DSP). ‘Dhinka Chika’ is essentially a remake of his Telugu chartbuster ‘Ringa Ringa’ from Arya 2. The track is sung by one the most energetic singers’ of our time, Mika Singh who is accompanied by Amrita Kak and both of them have done a fantastic job. Musically, the track is dhol-tastic and is devoid of any boring bits. Lyrically, Ashish Pandit has done a great job by penning lyrics about the lead couple’s romantic plans for the year, month by month. The innuendo in the lyrics is quite hilarious. In short, it is a fun-filled masaledaar track that does not disappoint. In regard to the remix, fortunately, DJ A-Myth has made little changes to the track, so the essence of the original is kept intact. The remix is equally good if not better.

Last track of the album is Meri Ada Bhi, a celebratory desi number with just the right amount of modern beats. This has to be Rahet Fateh Ali Khan’s fastest paced number and as usual he does a magnificent job. So magnificent, that one even forgets that Tulsi Kumar has sung the song with him. Neelesh Misra’s lyrics are not so run-of-mill this time round. The track’s quite fast paced in its own right so arguably a remix was not needed. Regardless, a remix of the track by DJ A-Myth exists, but one is better of ignoring that and just listening to the original, as it offers nothing that the first track does not.

In summary, Ready is one crazy album, as in, the energy level of the songs are off the charts. Pritam has definitely come close if not lived up to the musical styling’s of Sajid-Wajid in Dabanng and Wanted. The songs will be scorchers on screen if picturised with equal gusto. ‘Character Dheela’ and ‘Dhinka Chika’ have all the makings of a chartbuster, lets see if the music junta feel the same way.
