Reema Kagti has written and directed some of the best films in Indian cinema, including The Archies, Gully Boy, Talaash, and Zindagi Milegi Dobara, to name just a few. Each film was a critical and audience success, and now she has a new feather in her cap, but more on that in a few lines.
Her next project, this time in her director avatar, looks to be another outstanding work that takes us inside the world of amateur filmmaking. Titled SUPERBOYS OF MALEGAON, the film that focuses on making a film is a poignant yet uplifting take on filmmaking and friendship. Written by Varun Grover and executive produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, and Farhan Akhtar, the film stars Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Shashank Arora.
Now, to the feather… SUPERBOYS OF MALEGAON has been selected for a World Premiere Gala Screening by the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. The premiere will take place on September 13th.
Superboys of Malegaon is a film based on the life of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from the town of Malegaon. The town’s residents look to Bollywood cinema for a much-needed escape from daily drudgery. Nasir gets inspired to make a film for the people of Malegaon, by the people of Malegaon. He bands his ragtag group of friends to bring his vision to life, bringing a fresh lease of life into the town. It is a heartwarming tale that beautifully captures the essence of friendship and the transformative power of filmmaking.
