Every year the Film Industry is showered with bundle of newcomers from star kids to TV stars to outsiders. Some survive through their immense talent, hard work and capabilities while some fizzle out even before they can be noticed. 2013 has been a great year in introducing some of the best new crop of talents in the industry. To say that the year was full of surprises would not be wrong. Let’s have a look at the Best Debuts of 2013, who surprised us and left us craving for more.

Amrya5. Amyra Dastur (Issaq)

Amyra made her debut with Issaq, a desi adaptation of the age old Shakespearean saga-Romeo and Juliet. Though the movie failed to re-create the magic of the classic love story onscreen, debutant Amyra Dastur was appreciated for her sweet and simple portrayal of Bachi. A few more movies and performances to decide how good she actually is but for now, she definitely makes it to the Top 5 female debut list in our countdown.

4. Lauren Gottlieb (ABCD)Lauren

The popular star of the American reality show “So You Think You Can Dance” made her grand debut with Remo D’Souza’s Any Body Can Dance ABCD, portraying the role of a…surprise surprise…DANCER! While there were many new talents introduced in the film, Lauren certainly stood out and grabbed everyone’s attention. With her spectacular looks & breathtaking dancing abilities, she left everyone mesmerised. The movie did not require great histrionics so it’s too soon to judge the actor within her but she has definitely left an impressive mark behind which makes her worthy of being in our countdown.

Vani3. Vaani Kapoor (Shuddh Desi Romance)

Debuting with India’s leading production house (Yash Raj Films) is like a dream come true for anyone. And Vaani Kapoor lived her dream, when after alot of efforts and conviction, she landed herself a role in YRF’s Shuddh Desi Romance. Co-starring with two very powerful performers, Vaani made sure to hold her own with her blunt and sunny avatar. Despite playing a second fiddle to Parineeti Chopra, she made a confident debut with both the critics and people appreciating her work. For exuberating immense potential, Vaani surely deserves a spot in our countdown.

2. Gaelyn Mendonca (Nautanki Saala)Gaelyn

Nautanki Saala had one of the most interesting cast ensembles of 2013. The Rohan Sippy comedy had not one but three prominent ladies however the one that stole our attention was debutant Gaelyn Mendonca. Gaelyn was a breath of fresh air and energy onscreen. Not only was she extremely confident but stole the scene whenever she was in it. We truly hope that ‘not getting the guy’ syndrome won’t get to her career and we get to see more of this talented young lady who we think has something very different to offer onscreen compared to her contemporaries.

Pooja 1. Pooja Chopra (Commando)

Everything about Commando was a grand surprise. The film, the songs, the execution and of course, the actors. While we knew Vidyut had more than just good looks on his side courtesy of Nishikanth Kamath, we weren’t quite sure what to expect from newcomer Pooja Chopra. To our delight she was also one of the good surprises of the film. Pooja was extremely impressive as the chirpy, bubbly and extremely gutsy Simrat Kaur. Though we’ve seen glimpses of Pooja in Fashion and Heroine, Commando marks her official major debut debut into the Hindi film industry and may we say we’re mighty pleased she has finally arrived!
