Bollywood films would be nothing without the amazing songs that accompany them. Hence, we have put together a list of the best singers that have went to great lengths to entertain us this year through their voices. Take a look at who we have selected under the female category! 

5. Soha Mohapatra – ‘Ambarsariya’ (Fukrey)Soha

Soha Mohapatra has made it into fifth place with the delightful ‘Ambarsariya’ from the comedy film Fukrey. Soha demonstrated vocal uniqueness through her performance in this song. She was a true breath of fresh air for all of us, which is what Bollywood needs at the moment. Well done Soha for stepping out of the conventional norms and offering us something different!

4. Palak Muchhal – ‘Chahun Main Ya Naa’ & ‘Meri Aashiqui’ (Aashiqui 2)

Palak Muchhal is perhaps one of the most underrated singers in Bollywood. Yet she amazed us all this year with her vocal performances in the soundtrack to Aashiqui 2. Both ‘Chahun Main Ya Naa’ and ‘Meri Aashqui’ were melodious and wonderfully written songs that became widely appreciated by music lovers. Palak deserves her credit for the success of Aashiqui 2 as her voice made these two songs hits that will never be forgotten.

3. Aditi Paul – ‘Ang Laga De’ (Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela)

No one thought that Aditi would make it onto this list. Yet her performance in the song ‘Ang Laga De’ can be described using three words: provocative, emotional and  breath-taking. It is indeed one of the surprise songs to emerge from Bollywood this year and Sanjay Leela Bhansali made the right choice in taking Aditi on for this particular number.

2. Shalmali Kholgade – ‘Balam Pichkari’ (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani)

‘Balam Pichkari’ from the megahit Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is probably everyone’s favourite upbeat track from this year. In addition, Shalmali’s voice complemented the tone of the song amazingly well. It can be said with confidence that no other female singer could have done justice to this song, which will be remembered for years to come. Kudos to Shalmali on this one!

1. Sunidhi Chauhan – ‘Be Intehaan’ (Race 2), ‘Tere Mere Beech Mein’, ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ and ‘Kamli’ (Dhoom 3)

She is no doubt one of the most remarkable singers in Bollywood today and is considered to be a modern day version of Asha Bhosle. She gave us three hits this year from Race 2Shuddh Desi Romance and Dhoom 3 in which she shows her versatility and talent as a singer. Yes, we’re talking about the wonderful and iconic Sunidhi Chauhan who is number one in our list of the best female singers of 2013! Sunidhi has worked incredibly hard this year in entertaining all of us Bollywood lovers. From the soothing ‘Be Intehaan,’ to the upbeat ‘Tere Mere Beech Mein,’ to the Punjabi number ‘Kamli’, Sunidhi truly deserves her position on this list. Congratulations Sunidhi and here’s to many more hits in the near future!
