Indian Films’ Abhay Deol vehicle Road, Movie is gathering critical attention on the worldwide festival circuit – but the film has also won itself an unexpected supporter in Hollywood superstar, Robert De Niro.
The star was apparently unable to attend a screening of Road, Movie at the Doha Film Festival last year – but met up with the film’s support team at the festival and told them how eager he was to see it, and asked if a copy of the film could be sent to his New York address.
Thinking that the Oscar winner was just being polite, the film-makers didn’t follow up the matter – until they ran into De Niro’s manager at the Berlin Film Festival, who reminded them that the actor was serious about wanting to see the film.
Satish Kaushik, who in Road, Movie abandons his comic persona to tackle a more serious role says, “I couldn’t believe somebody like Robert De Niro was saying that he has heard all good things about Road, Movie and wants to watch the film. He requested us to provide him with a copy of the film. He was so humble that we have all become his fans now. Apart from being such a great artiste, he is also a wonderful human being.”
