Often we had heard of actors that were considered originally before being played by someone. Some have proved shocking, while some leave the audience wishing the originally selected actor did the role. For the role essayed by Karishma Kapoor in Dil To Pagal Hai the list of actresses approached by the makers seem to include all that had steady careers to newcomers on it. But this is part and parcel of the industry. Sometimes however, it is quite surprising to find who was to do a character that became a household name. In the case of Abhishek Bachchan, he has not one but two instances where he was approached for a role by Rohan Sippy but ended up doing another.
Some may not know this but the over conscientious Dittu in 2005’s Bluffmaster was the role that Abhishek was originally approached for before Ritiesh Deshmukh came on board, therefore making way for Abhishek to play the suave Roy Kapoor and the rest becoming as they say, history with the duo’s chemistry and the soundtrack making waves. It seems this happened again for Dum Maaro Dum, this time Abhishek was offered the role of DJ Joki which is now played by Rana Daggubati. “..when I read the script, I told him that I want to do ACP Vishnu Kamath’s role instead, because I felt I would be able to do that role better and Rohan agreed.”says Bachchan when speaking to IANS. Having already played a police officer in Dhoom 1 and 2 and Dus, what was the reason he wanted to play another one, instead of something different like a DJ? “I liked the attitude of this character. I liked the way he tackled situations in life and that’s the reason I did it”. Here’s hoping that role reversal that was made famous with Bluffmaster, works again with DMD.
