Saif Ali Khan worked with Shah Rukh Khan 23 years ago in Karan Johar’s hit Kal Ho Naa Ho. The two are back together, though not as co-actors.
Shah Rukh Khan is the producer of Saif’s new film Kartavya, which casts the actor as a cop in rural North India, battling corruption.
Saif Ali Khan say, “Kartavya produced by Shah Rukh’s company Red Chillies Entertainment, is going to come out soon. It’s a lovely piece by director Pulkit, and I’m really happy.”
Pulkit has directed the stunning series Bhakshak, which starred Bhumi Pednekkar as a smalltown journalist exposing the sexual exploitation of young girls in a shelter home. The director says his film with Saif belongs in the same zone. The trick was to make the very urban speak and behave like a cop in rural India. Apparently Saif has outdone himself.
The film also features an ensemble cast including Rasika Duggal, Sanjay Mishra, Saurabh Dwivedi, Zakir Hussain, and Manish Chaudhari.
Kartavya marks the second collaboration between Red Chillies Entertainment, Netflix, and director Pulkit, following Bhakshak. Set in the heartland, the film explores the complex intersections of law, family, truth, and duty, with Saif delivering remarkable depth and intensity in a morally layered character.
Says the director Pulkit, “Kartavya is a story of a cop put in a situation where the outside world and the inside world both are collapsing. Its a question asked to him, how far you can go for your duty, your kartavya.”
