Sally Bollywood, France 3’s children’s detective anime is about an Indian girl in France whose father happens to be the world’s greatest detective. In a series of 52 x 13-minute episodes, she decides to follow in her father’s footsteps and with the support of her two best friends as assistants, she sets up her own detective agency, Sally Bollywood Investigations, that is only available for hire by the under-12s.
Produced by Tele-Image Kids and Je Suis Bien Content studios in Paris along with Trackdown in Australia, each episode is a huge enterprise, requiring over 20 animators and up to 200 images for each episode. Launched at the Cartoon Forum industry event in Girona, Spain, the series has been in production for 18 months and will launch on French TV in September. Each episode, the producers say, carries Bollywood themes and styling.
The pilot episode was shown to great acclaim at the Salerno Cartoons on the Bay Festival in Italy in April and the series will hopefully be coming to a channel near you very soon. Already purchased by Disney, it has release dates scheduled for France, Belgium, Australia (Channel 7), Singapore, Italy, Spain, India, Korea and Malaysia.
