Salman Khan’s Sikandar is set to release on March 28th. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by AR Murugadoss, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Suniel Shetty, Sathyaraj and Prateik Babbar.
Subhash K Jha gives his thoughts on the trailer that was just released today.
The trailer of S S Murugadoss is exactly what we expect it to be. Noisy and pointless. But why is Rashmika Mandanna not speaking in her voice? Could it be on account of her Southern twang not being appreciated in Chhaava?
In all fairness, I hope some of her blockbuster status rubs off on Sikandar. It is evident from the trailer that it needs all the luck in the world. There is nothing here that we haven’t seen before….or would like to see in our movie entertainment. Salman Khan wants to cleanse our society of corruption. This time, he has the formidable Sathyaraj as his adversary. The veteran Telugu actor looks minimally menacing.
It would take a miracle for Sathyaraj, or the film, to pounce out of its jaded jalopy of a bumpy ride onto the smooth highway by the time the film releases on Sunday.
I think Sikandar has a lot to worry about. It is being released three days after Prithviraj-Mohanlal’s eagerly awaited L2 Empuraan. The trailer of that purported epic is also out, and although the response is underwhelming, it is still aeons ahead of the poor response to the Sikandar trailer.
Weirdly, Rashmika Mandana is heard crooning Lataji’s immortal song ‘Lag ja gale se’ to Salman Khan. It’s like ‘ear’dropping the Taj Mahal in the Gaza strip. This has got to be Salman’s idea. I know he loves that song. He insisted on singing it to me when we met.
If the heroine warbling ‘Lag ja gale se’ (Lataji will forgive her, I am sure) is the highlight of the show, then there is reason to worry about the muqaddar(fate) of this Sikandar.
By the way, Salman looks completely mismatched with his new co-star…Or perhaps ‘mismatched’ is a misnomer. For there to be a mismatch, there has to be some match in the first place.
Going by the trailer of Sikandar, I can only say fanboys shouldn’t direct their idols. Murugadoss has been going on and on and on about how much he adores Salman Khan. Remember what a mess fellow fanboy Puri Jagannadh made of his Bachchan flick Buddha Hoga Tera Baap? Fan directors just don’t know when to say cut.
Check the trailer out!
