14jul_SalmanKhan_Kick01Kick is a blockbuster, and it is just a matter of profits that it makes from this point on. Now that the statement has been made, let’s come down to some bare facts. First and foremost, the film has managed to score its first week in the excess of 160 crore. Now that’s next only to Dhoom 3 which had a first week reading of 189 crore. Just like the Aamir Khan starrer, even Kick was an event release. However, Dhoom 3 was third in the series of a super popular franchise with a superstar who makes selective appearances. Here, Salman was coming barely six months after Jai Ho and that too in a ‘masala’ genre.
Nevertheless, many other records have been created in just a week’s time period. This is now seventh straight Salman Khan century, hence taking forward the winning streak that started with Dabangg. Secondly, Sajid Nadiadwala now holds the record of being a debutant filmmaker with the highest grosser to his name, hence surpassing Arbaaz Khan’s Dabangg 2 collections of 155 crore. Thirdly, it is the highest grosser of the year already, and that too within a week’s time. Fourthly, it is Jacqueline Fernandez’s third century after Housefull 2 and Race 2.
It is only going to be further fantastic from this point on as the film would now comfortably go past the 200 crore mark, courtesy zero competition this week. What comes from this point on is added bonus for the film which has fetched some of the best response for a Salman Khan starrer in a long time. Meanwhile for Sajid Nadiadwala, the film marks the continuation of a phenomenal year which has seen him backing Highway, 2 States and Heropanti and writing the story of Lai Bhaari, which is also well on course for being the highest grosser ever in Marathi cinema, while already crossing the 30 crore mark.
