Prakash Jha has denied that his upcoming film Satyagraha is based on social activist Anna Hazare. Following the release of the film’s trailer, many presumed that Amitabh Bachchan’s character is based on the popular anti-corruption campaigner. “I have not commented on this before. The film is not based on Anna Hazare and has nothing to do with the movement, said Prakash to the media. The entire process of satyagraha comes from Gandhiji. Mr Bachchan plays the role of a satyagrahi who believes in truth.”
Prakash also spoke of how fortunate he is to have been able to work again with Amitabh Bachchan, with whom he worked with in his last film Aarakshan (2011). “It is very fortunate for us that someone from our generation gets to work with Mr Bachchan.”
Given that Prakash Jha’s films revolve around controversial subjects, this has led to a number of protests in India. However, they tend to stop once the film is finally released. “When you make a film on a social subject, everyone has different perspectives. So protests are natural. But when the film releases, it becomes better.”
Satyagraha was initially scheduled for release on 23 August. However, given that it faced stiff competition from Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express and Akshay Kumar’s Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobara, it will now release on 30 August!
