Over the weekend King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan flew to Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) in the south of India for the opening of a resort. ‘The Raviz Resort’ owned by NRI businessman Ravi Pillai was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy. Alongwith Shah Rukh, Malayalam superstars Mohanlal, Mammotty and director Priyadarshan graced the event.
Welcomed to the sound of traditional drum beats, Shah Rukh addressed the huge crowd, making sure to add few Malayalam words. “I am immensely happy to be here in Kollam. I want to thank Mr. Pillai and everyone involved with Raviz and I hope it’s a huge success”, he said also expressing gratitude for liking his films, his words eventually camouflaged by the cheers of the gathered fans.
At another event during the day, Shah Rukh and Mohanlal also launched the logo for ‘Kollam Feast’, a tourism promotion campaign where a video was played highlighting the beauty of the place affectionately known as ‘God’s own country’.
Joining the assembled press for a brief Q&A session, SRK dodged questions on his experiences in Kerala, Anna Hazare, the Aarakshan ban with his trademark wit and grin in place.
Citing Malayalam cinema as one of the finest, he confessed that though he didn’t understand the language, he admired the movies that his friends shared with him.
Speaking on the Anna Hazare movement he stated, “I think the cause is fantastic, it has been brought to the forefront. The implementation, the parliamentarian aspects, the constitutional rules and laws, practicality of the laws is beyond my scope of understanding to really comment on.” “Now its an aspect of discussion. We should think how to take the best out of it so that it does not die out”, he added.
Upon being asked if he would recommend the people in Bombay to visit the hotel, he cheekily replied, ‘I am coming for sure and wherever I go, the rest of Mumbai goes. So don’t worry!”
Later in the day, the two superstars much to the excitement of the gathered crowds, took time out to take a short trip around the place and bonded amicably over a ferry ride. Expressing his delight, Shah Rukh tweeted, “The great mohanlalji…so much humilty abd grace. Showed me around kollam like an excited child… http://t.co/IO8t5nX”
