Our very own Shah Rukh Khan has been selected to join the Yale University’s Chubb Fellows, one of the Ivy League institution’s highest honours. The Chubb Fellowship observed that through his films and his philanthropy, SRK has been among his generation’s most important examples of the power of art to promote higher human ideals and aspirations.

Chubb Fellows spend their time at Yale in close, informal contact with students and deliver a public lecture.

This honour has been given to heads of states, Nobel Prize winners, and leaders from every area of human endeavour who have inspired Yale students to see service to the public good as the highest calling to which a global citizen can aspire.

The 46-year old actor will join the likes of Presidents George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter; authors Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes and Toni Morrison; filmmaker Sofia Coppola; architect Frank Gehry; choreographer Mikhail Baryshnikov; and journalist Walter Cronkite, when he will speak to the Yale community, spend time in close, informal contacts with students and deliver a public lecture to the general public at Yale University on April 12.

About the Chubb Fellowship

In 1936, Hendon Chubb 1895S, established a fund for “…the encouragement and aid of students interested in government and public affairs.” In 1949, Chubb and the Master of Timothy Dwight College collaborated to create a visiting fellowship program as the principle means to achieve this goal.

For over sixty years, the Master of Timothy Dwight has named a few nationally and internationally distinguished men and women each year to receive Yale’s highest honors for a visiting lecturer: the Chubb Fellowship. They include many heads of state, other national and international political leaders, Nobel and Pulitzer prize winners, and a wide range of highly accomplished individuals in business, nonprofit management and the arts whose experiences and leadership have helped define the challenges of our times and the ways that we should seek to address them.

Above all, the Chubb Fellowship program engages the Yale and New Haven communities with the notion that service to the public good is the highest calling to which any citizen can aspire.

Established in 1936, through the generosity of Hendon Chubb (Yale College Class of 1895), the programme is based in Timothy Dwight College, one of Yale’s residential colleges. Each year three or four distinguished men and women have been appointed as visiting Chubb Fellows.
