He has said it more than enough times and we all get it by now. Shahrukh Khan hopes to be like the great Amitabh Bachchan. When Shahrukh’s Ram Jaane came out in 1995, people noticed more than enough similarties between it and Amithabh’s Lawaris. Even in movies such as 2000’s Mohabatein and 2001’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which starred both Amitabh and Shahrukh, critics and fans alike could see how Shahrukh was trying to emulate his senior co-star.
Shahrukh took a step further when he signed on for Don, a remake of the orignial 1978’s Don that started Amitabh. But now it seems that Shahrukh would definitely like to be another Dr Bachchan as he signs to host Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 (KBC, India’s version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire). Dr Bachchan had been the former host of the show for 2 seasons and was even offered to renew his contract but he decided to decline because of his health issues. And so, when the offer went to Khan, he jumped at the opportunity that might help him to be more successful like Dr Bachchan. Time and time again, he tried hard to be like the great Amitabh Bachchan and came close but was never in the same league. Will he be able to take Amitabh’s place in KBC? Is he really the next Amitabh? I guess we have to wait and see.
Catch him in KBC 3 in January 2007, on Star Plus!
