He is one of the best, not only as a composer as part of the incredible trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, he has also sung brilliantly, needless to say, on SEL tracks and many other outstanding songs. He has won numerous awards for his music, and now he can add another prestigious award to his name.

Mahadevan was honored with his first Grammy along with the members of the fusion band Shakti with the award for The Best Global Album for This Moment. The group consists of Mahadevan as the vocalist, the esteemed tabla player Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin (guitar, guitar synth), V Selvaganesh (percussionist) and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).

Interestingly, this is the first new studio album by the band Shakti in 45 years. YES, 45 years!

In his acceptance speech, Mahadevan said, “We miss you, John ji. Zakir Hussain, he just had another Grammy. Thank you, boys. Thank you, God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you.”

Hussain actually won two other awards at the Grammys: Best Global Music Performance and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.

Mahadevan also mentioned, “Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife, whom every note of my music is dedicated to.”
