Bollywood took center stage as dance enthusiasts from New York and New Jersey performed at SHIAMAK Summer Funk Show 2015. A globally famous summer dance workshop and show that started in Mumbai twenty years back made its debut in the USA. With students between ages 4 to 84 taking to the stage, the show embodied the academy’s motto – ‘Have Feet. Will Dance.’™
The biggest Bollywood stars have performed at the Summer Funk Show in India including the likes of Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Sushant Singh Rajput and Sonakshi Sinha. This summer, Shiamak’s expert faculty here in the USA gave each student the experience of being a star on stage as well. This workshop gives the participants an opportunity to learn and train in their favorite dance style, understand the finer nuances of dance movement and gain a wholesome perspective working on dance, costumes and properties. The show is a platform for all participating students to perform on stage in a professional setup.
The highlight of the event was a display of contemporary dance movement by the Special Potential Batch. From across New York and New Jersey, potential students are selected through auditions and given a chance to train in technique and intensively in various dance styles. The faculty and managers, Bhuvan Sharma, Deeba Patel and Devashree Pande set the stage on fire showcasing Bollywood Jazz. With tributes to Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Madhuri Dixit and many more, this students show was a complete dance extravaganza with the colors and energy of Bollywood!
Founder and Artistic Director, Shiamak Davar surprised the students via a video call and wished them luck. The students burst into a loud applause seeing their icon live on the screen! He gave students another surprise by bringing Nach Baliye 7 judge, Marzi who engaged the audience in an interactive Q&A. The students were charge up after this video call and upped their performance levels!
Host Monty Lokesh Kataria kept the audience connected through the show and an impromptu dance workshop by the faculty got them dancing as well. CEO of The SHIAMAK Group, Glen D’Mello was present for the show. “I’ve seen Summer Funk shows from the time they started in Mumbai and grew across the world. Honestly, this was one of the finest shows I have seen by the students. The energy, performance and dance display was fantastic!” said Mr. D’Mello.
SHIAMAK USA has a lot planned for dance enthusiasts for the rest of the year kickstarting with a Summer Camp for kids and Summer Masti.
