In what must be the wedding of the year, Shilpa Shetty finally tied the know with her beau, British industrialist Raj Kundra. The groom, dressed in a gold and scarlet sherwani, designed by Shantanu and Nikhil, rode through the streets in a horse-drawn chariot to the Bawa Villa in Khandala where his bride waited for him expectantly. The bride wore a luscious gold, crimson and burgandy saree, designed by Tarun Tahiliani, for the Mangalorean ceremony. “She was surrounded by her closest friends and family and the wedding was conducted in traditional south Indian rituals,” said a spokesman for the family.
“Everything went very well, added Kiran Bawa, a friend of Shilpa, “All parents want their children to get married happily and that goes the same for Shilpa’s parents as well. They are very happy. Raj and Shilpa both were very nervous before the marriage but now they are happy too.”
As might be expected, Shilpa is in fine spirits at the moment. “This is my dream wedding,” she said, “We plan to shuttle between Mumbai and London after marriage. I shall strive to be as successful at home as I am outside. I want to excel as a homemaker.”
The previous evening’s sangeet had been a fun-filled affair with Raj demonstrating his skills at the moonwalk. A family reception will also be held tomorrow.
