After announcing Once upon a time in Mumbai 2, producer Ekta Kappor will now make Shootout at Lokhandwala 2. The first part did relatively well at the box office in 2007 and starred Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Tusshar Kapoor, Sunil Shetty and Arbaaz Khan and was co-written and directed by Apoorva Lakhia.
After parting ways over creative differences following the release of Shootout at Lokhandwala, Ekta Kapoor has now buried the hatchet with Sanjay Gupta and managed to convince him to stop work on his Hong Kong crime-thriller adaptation and join her to make the sequel.
The sequel will be based on yet another real life Mumbai encounter – the first ever recorded entounter in 1982. Although this time round we hear that Apoorva Lakhia will not be in the director’s seat, following a fall out with Gupta. Gupta will himself take on the direction or find an appropriate director to continue the franchise.
Not all is lost for Lakhia though, who has just signed Sanjay Dutt, to play another police officer in his forthcoming venture on the same lines as Shootout, about the battle against terrorism in Punjab during the Khalistan movement. Supposedly Amitabh Bachchan is likely join Dutt, having also played one of the key roles in Shootout.
Dutt and Gupta were good friends and started production compnay White Feather Films together, but fell out over Shootout at Lokhandwala because members of the film crew were allegedly not paid for their work on the film.
With all these breakups and makeups – it remains to be seen who Ekta Kapoor and Sanjay Gupta will cast in their sequel given the stellar star-cast the original had. Of course we’ll bring you the latest as soon as we hear more.
