Yet another director has announced his intention to make a Kishore Kumar biopic. This time it’s Nagesh Kukunoor, who at least appears to have the backing of the late actor’s son Amit Kumar and widow Leena Chandravarkar. Shreyas Talpade has said that he’s been approached to play the slightly mad legendary actor and playback singer who was married to Madhubala until her untimely death. “Nagesh had asked me a year-and-a-half back about doing Kishore-da’s part and I had immediately said yes, but nothing is official as of now,” says Shreyas, “Personally speaking, I’m really looking forward to it. I haven’t been able to speak with Nagesh about it yet, but I’d love to portray Kishore-da without any doubt… I’m a big fan of his and as an actor it’ll be a huge honour for me as well as a challenge to enact him in a film.”
Shreyas is currently working on Aage Se Right with Kay Kay Menon, Mahi Gill and Shenaz Treasurywala. The film is a satire based on Mumbai involving a cop and terrorist and the plot centres on Shreyas as the cop losing his gun and the terrorist, Kay Kay losing his heart whilst on the job. It’s due for release on September 4th.
In addition, Shreyas has a major role Click, a horror movie, with southern belle Sada which has just completed filming and appears with Kay Kay again – as well as John Abraham and the delightful Genelia D’Souza in Hook Ya Crook. One of Shreyas’ more interesting future projects is The Making of the Painter about famous Indian artist MF Husain, based in London and still working at the age of 94.
