Sony Music Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt. Ltd. recently launched one of the most anticipated film soundtracks of the year, ‘Dilwale’ with a worldwide exclusive listening session of three tracks from the OST at the Sony Music headquarters in London. Shah Rukh Khan sent a video message for the event and music composer Pritam interacted with the UK media via video conferencing.
Dilwale will reignite the quintessential, romantic magic of the iconic Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan on-screen pairing for the first time since 2010’s worldwide hit, ‘My Name Is Khan’.
The soundtrack for ‘Dilwale’ has been composed by renowned music director Pritam, collaborating with lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya. The duo has previously come together to create hit songs for soundtracks such as ‘Cocktail’, ‘Barfi!’, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and ‘Dhoom 3’.
‘Dilwale’ features a standout musical contribution and a wide variety of genres from key ballads to anthemic dance tracks that bring to life the truly unique and evergreen chemistry of Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan. Looking back over two decades in film, Bollywood’s favourite onscreen couple has always shared a backdrop of incredibly successful music, with classic hits from ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Baazigar’, ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ and ‘My Name Is Khan’; still very much in the hearts and minds of Bollywood music lovers of all ages, all over the world. Not to forget the timeless Kajol-Shah Rukh Khan classic, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, which celebrates a landmark 20 years in cinema this month, making it the longest running film in the history of Indian cinema.
Speaking about the launch Shah Rukh Khan through his video message said that it was a special day, as the music of a Bollywood film has never been sampled to the media in the past and that too even before the trailer has been released.
The three tracks previewed to the press at the event are titled ‘Gerua’, Manma Emotion Jaage’ and ‘Janam Janam’. The soundtrack of Dilwale will feature seven tracks in total.
Speaking to the media at the sneak peek event, Pritam said that Dilwale is a very special movie for him. “I have never worked on a full-fledged Shah Rukh Khan movie. I composed the music for Billu which featured SRK in a special appearance. Last year on his birthday, Shah Rukh told me that he was coming to me with something special. I was extremely excited as I have always wanted to work with him. Our generation has grown up idolising SRK-Kajol.”
VEERAN THA DIL KA JAHAAN
JIS DIN TU DAACHIL HUA
DUNIYA KO BHULA KE
TUMSE MILA HOON
DIL SE NIKLI HAI DUA
RANG DE TO MOHE GERUA
” ‘Gerua’ is a romantic song picturised on SRK and Kajol in Iceland. It has been sung by Arijit Singh and Antara Mitra. I actually reworked the song after I saw the picturisation and added Bulgarian folk instruments in the track. When I found out that Kajol has been cast opposite SRK in Dilwale, I couldn’t sleep for one night. Then I stopped thinking about it. Their legacy is impossible to beat. This was the first romantic song that I played to them and they approved it straight away. The words in the song mean that ‘I should become a yogi in your love and leave the world’. We went through a few voices for Gerua but Arijit suits the track and Antara brought a freshness to it,” said Pritam about the love song.
CHOORIYA RE
GOORIYA RE
TERE JALWA DEKHA TU
MANA MAIN MAUSAM JAAGE RE
DIL JAAGA RE
MANMA EMOTION JAAGE
Talking about this dance party song, Pritam said, ” This song has been picturised on Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in a grand way. It’s a fun track and the main hook of the song is something that Amitabh Bhattacharya came up with.”
Janam Janam
JAANE SAATH CHALNA YOOHIN
KASAM KASAM AA KE MILNA YOOHIN
MERI SUBAH HO TUN HI HO
AUR SHAAN BHI
TERI BAAHON MAIN HOON MERE DONO JAHAAN
TU MERI AARZOO
TU MERI AASHIQUI
JANAM JANAM
“After SRK and Rohit Shetty narrated the script to me, this was the track I composed on the next day. They instantly liked it as well. Janam Janam is truly the theme of the movie and is played whenever SRK-Kajol meet in the film. While the film is a typical Rohit Shetty film, it also has a love story which is very important,” said Pritam.
‘Dilwale’ is directed by Rohit Shetty, whose last collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, ‘Chennai Express’, was a runaway, global success. The film also features the crème of Indian cinema’s new generation talent, Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan, alongside a seasoned supporting cast of actors like Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Vinod Khanna, Kabir Bedi, Mukesh Tiwary and Varun Sharma.
