Although still regarded by many to be a Bollywood ‘newbie,’ Sonakshi Sinha has been a part of films that have enjoyed tremendous box office successes. This has enabled her to win the attention of the audiences and she has been showing more and more confidence as an actress. After doing some soppy and innocent characters, Sonakshi is now ready to showcase her acting versatility by taking on her first intense action based role with the upcoming film Namak. This will see her star alongside actor Shahid Kapoor and it is being directed by the famous Prabhu Deva. Deva is also an actor and choreographer and he has recently directed the hit film Rowdy Rathore (2012), which also starred Sonakshi as the leading lady.

A friend of Deva’s told a leading Indian newspaper why Sonakshi was the ideal choice for the role: “During Rowdy Rathore, Prabhu Deva and Sonakshi really hit it off. When he was shooting the Govinda song with Sonakshi for Oh My God, Prabhu mentioned to Sonakshi that watching her agile dance steps he was sure she would make a terrific action heroine. He told her about the girl in Namak who doesn’t just stand behind the hero biting her lips and wringing her hands, but actually has her own action plan. Sonakshi was immediately game.”

According to sources, the film is “an intense love story set against a violent backdrop.” It is reportedly in the scripting stages and both Sonakshi and Shahid will be doing physical training in order to prepare for their roles. A source reported the following to the same newspaper: “He (Prabhu) wants his lead pair to excel in the martial arts. But he doesn’t want them to learn their stunts separately. Their action scenes should look perfectly co-ordinated on screen. For that Shahid and Sonakshi have to make the time to get into the action mode as a couple.”

Although the film is in its early stages and an official release date is not yet confirmed, hopefully this will be another Sonakshi starrer which will amaze us all!
