Has it not been just days since Sonam Kapoor commented that Aishwarya Rai and her belong two different generations? It was this very comment that set every tongue in the industry wagging and everyone thinking ‘What was this Kapoor trying to say?’ It now seems that L’Oreal’s new brand ambassador for India is now insisting that she was misquoted and has nothing but the highest respect for this senior actress.

In a statement issued by Sonam she has stated, “I have seen the polemic and I am shocked. Anything that I have said has been placed out of context and completely misinterpreted. I have the utmost admiration for her (Ash) and her career. She represents the young, modern, beautiful Indian women with an incredible talent.”

L’Oreal too insists that Sonam was not brought in as a replacement for the Bachchan Bahu, who turns 36 in November. A press release issued by the brand maintained that the reports of L’Oreal Paris replacing Aishwarya Rai with Sonam Kapoor were inaccurate in its entirety. “Aishwarya Rai is the epitome of Indian beauty and the face of L’Oreal Paris not only in India but across the globe. Her beauty appeals to all ages and because she has no wrinkles, we have never asked her to promote our anti-ageing cream.”

L’Oreal claim Sonam Kapoor was selected as a brand ambassador because like any major brand in any other country it needs more than one brand ambassador to promote the multiplicity in its range of products. Sonam will be an ambassador for the brand in India only.

“We have a long term relationship with Aishwarya and intend to reinforce it even further in the future,” stated the release.

Having completed almost in her association with Swiss brand Longines and international soap Lux, the Bachchan Bahu has plenty of international endorsements in her kitty despite her six year relationship with L’Oreal Paris.
