Only the very elite make it to the London School of Economics and British actress Sophie Choudry is one of those. Not having historical contacts in the film industry, a major disadvantage in Bollywood, she has nevertheless succeeded in plotting a career for herself in the industry. “After my graduation, I got a job in the UN. But I have been a singer from a young age and I loved singing,” she explains, “So, I chose to get into this field and I shifted to Mumbai. There have been many ups and downs. Thousands of girls come to Bollywood everyday but not everybody makes it. But I have managed to stay here and have been appreciated for my work. Without having a godfather, I have made it.”
Sophie effortlessly manages to juggle three careers in movies, music and fashion. Currently, she is judging the Face of the Season competition for fashion house Madame.
“I love being fashionable and like to play it up in a fun, girlie sort of way,” she confides, “Having been brought up in London, I would always dress up and loved walking around in heels. When I came to Mumbai, everyone would ask me whether I was headed out for a party all day long!”
Sophie made history recently when she became the first Indian artist to have her own Youtube channel. “Ive started my own channel on Youtube because it has become a popular way to reach out to the fans,” she says. “I’m told that I am the first female artist from India to have a channel on Youtube. The channel will showcase my videos, making of the videos and songs.”
