Alisha Chinoy has been the undisputed Queen of Pop since the late 1980s and her popularity and fan following continues to grow. She is one of the pioneers of Indian pop music and has reinvented it with every new album from “Babydoll”, “Jadoo” to the immensely successful, “Made in India”. The latter is one such album that made history with the super-hit song, Made in India. It was the highest selling album in Indian history, selling over 3.5 million copies. The title song created new trends in the pop music culture. From thereon there was no looking back for the talented diva. Even though her later albums were not as successful as “Made in India”, her talent was widely appreciated.
Besides being the reigning Queen of Pop, she is also a playback singer, singing for over 80 movies. Her latest chartbuster was the immensely popular Kajra Re from Shaad Ali’s Bunty aur Babli. The song started a whole new craze and was heard on every radio station, every music channel, restaurants, etc. The song brought Alisha back in the limelight, and those few who did not know her clearly surely know her now. She recently lent her voice to the “Aap Ki Khatir” and “Don” albums making the songs huge successes.
Alisha’s success isn’t only restricted to Bollywood as she has in the past received the International Billboard Award as well as the prestigious Freddie Mercury Award for Artistic Excellence. Also in the 2004 International Song Festival, she bagged the first place prize for the song Seulement Vous.
