There was a time when our filmmakers were hell bent on creating roles with the lead character being blind, and we saw the films like Black, Fanaa, Tom Dick and Harry and Pyaare Mohan following the trend enthusiastically. But now Bollywood moves on to a new trend – stammering. Shah Rukh Khan started it perhaps in Darr with the classic Kiran line and now the baton is being given to Shahid Kapoor in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey. The latest news on this trend is that Ranbir Kapoor is also joining it!
Raj Kumar Santoshi’s return to comedy after the legendry Andaz Apna Apna is titled Ajab Pyaar Ki Ghazab Kahani and will see its lead actor Ranbir Kapoor stammering. Co-staring Ranbir in the film is Katrina Kaif and Upen Patel.
A source revealed to Mid-Day that Mr Santoshi has casted Ranbir in an underdog character in the film and the stammering is meant to be a characteristic which will not only make the other characters in the storyline sympathize with him but also will draw a special emotion for the character from the audiences upon release. The storyline is structured in a way that Ranbir’s disability slowly fades as the story progresses.
The even more interesting aspect of the news is that unlike Shahid, Ranbir is essaying the character in his own way without any extra professional input from doctors or specialists, which are some modes of help Shahid had used for his role in Kaminey!
Only time will tell how both Ranbir and Shahid’s attempts fair!
