Celebrated Indian designer, Sulakshana Monga, wowed the fashion set with the presentation of her latest couture collection as part of BMW India Bridal Fashion Week at DLF Emporio, New Delhi, generating unanimous praise from the style elite.
Themed around Heritage Revival and paying tribute to the region of Bareilly, Sulakshana has honoured the heritage of Indian artwork and technique in her latest collection under her label, Soltee, by reviving and reworking the designs of ancient Zardozi handwork. Her modern-day tribute to 1920’s Bareilly craft and design has been inspired by the region’s regal interiors and vintage craftsmanship, translated to contemporary silhouettes.
A month ago, the designer travelled to Banaras, Bareilly and Lucknow in search of inspiration for her 2015 couture collection. She was fascinated by Bareilly embroiderers and, as a tribute to them, honoured the heritage of Indian artwork and technique, reviving and reworking the designs of the late Zardozi handwork in a modern-day tribute.
Sulakshana’s lauded designs transcend the boundaries of seasonal trends in favour of an experimentation with aesthetics – masterpieces sought after by Indian fashion influencers and tastemakers across the globe. High profile clients include Bollywood actresses Deepika Padukone, Ileana D’Cruz and Sunny Leone, to name a few. Sulakshana has been the recipient of coveted accolades including the Shama Prasad Mukherjee Award in the field of Art (2015) and the Bharat Gaurav Award (2014).
