The brilliant Superboys of Malegaon, directed by  Reema Kagti, features outstanding performances by Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Shashank Arora.  Set to fly onto the big screen on February 28th, this film is a must-see.

Superboys of Malegaon is a poignant tale of filmmaking and friendship. The movie within a movie takes inspiration from the real-life story of Nasir Sheikh, an amateur filmmaker from the small town of Malegaon. The town’s residents look to Bollywood for a much-needed escape, and Nasir wants to make Bollywood-inspired films for the people of Malegaon, by the people of Malegaon. He bands his motley crew of friends together to bring his visions to life. Passion overcomes shoestring budgets, ingenuity conquers challenges, and dreams ignite hope, breathing new life into the people and town. Brimming with comedy, adventure, and colorful characters, Superboys Of Malegaon is a testament to the wonders that can be achieved when imagination is matched with resourcefulness, loyalty, and lots of love.

I loved the film and was so excited when I was able to talk to Adarsh Gourav, who plays Nasir, Vineet Kumar Singh, who is the writer Farogh, and Shashank Arora as Shafique, the Superman of Malegaon.

We have an absolutely amazing video interview, but before you hit play to experience the entire conversation, let’s set the stage with a few highlights from the actors!

Shashank Arora had nothing but praise for the story and essence of Superboys of Malegaon. “I think I felt at home when I first started. It’s for anyone who really likes films. For me, I really like making films and to read a script about someone who puts everything on the line to make a film with his friends. It’s amazing. It’s so charming. It was moving. It made me cry. And I laughed when I read the script as well.  So, I immediately just jumped up with the opportunity of wanting to be a part of Nasir’s story.”

Adarsh Gourav, who plays Nasir, revealed he was in awe when he learned of this story. “I was in complete awe and wonder when I read the script. Nasir and his band of friends decide to make their own films. So, while they are spoofing popular Bollywood films, they’re doing it in their language; they’re casting people from the streets, Nasir’s own friends, and making them into icons, you know, making them immortal in some way.”

He also praised his co-actors: “When you have the chance to work with such amazing actors like Shashank and Vineet and all the other boys, in fact, it just makes your job a little bit easier.”

Vineet Kumar Singh also loved the story, “It’s an amazing script. It’s so unique. I don’t think any place in the world is like, you know, Malegaon because if you visit it, you will realize people are fighting for small, small things to achieve in their lives like day-to-day survival is tough. But because of the love of the cinema, passion, and the community effort, he (Nasir) created a film industry there.”

Adding, “The film gives you hope, it gives you dreams, gives you strength. There’s drama, there’s comedy, there’s fun, you know, there’s passion, lots of things. And characters are being, you know, wiser with this journey.” Well said!
