Top Southern actress Priyamani is thrilled to be playing a role in Mani Ratnam’s Ravaan, which is looking like it could be one of the big hits of 2010. She’s hoping that the role will provide a great boost to her career and she talks warmly about her co-star, Abhishek Bachchan. “Abhishek brings the sets to life with his pranks,” she says, “He is great fun and a powerhouse of energy. But the moment he is summoned for his shot, he transforms into a no-nonsense professional; working with him has been a great learning experience.”

Raavan also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vikram and is being made simultaneously in Tamil as Ashokavanam. The story is set in the present day and is said to be only loosely based on the Ramayana.

Things are moving rapidly in the career of Kerala-born actress Priyamani, best known for her role in Paruthi Veeran, Yamadonga and Thirakkatha, the latter based on the popular and tragic life of film actress Srividya. She won a National Film Award for Paruthi Veeran. Already a star all over the South, Raavan gives her the opportunity to break into Bollywood. She is also looking forward to her first Kannada film, Ram, in which she will star opposite Puneet Rajkumar. The film is a remake of the Tollywood hit Ready.
