The Dirty Picture, which is yet to be released, is believed to be based around the life of the late Silk Smitha. But the production house behind the film have aimed to clarify the confusion surrounding the topic of the film. With the rise of interest in the topic of the film, it had come to light that the brother of Silk Smitha, V. Naga Vara Prasad, has looked to take action against Balaji Motion Pictures for producing a film about his sister without permission from the family.

A statement released by Balaji said “With reference to the legal notice received and the ongoing speculation about the film, Balaji wishes to clarify that ‘The Dirty Picture’ is the romantic journey of a fiercely ambitious starlet who
dreams of making it big on the silver screen.”

“It draws inspiration from the strugglers in the 1980s whose indomitable spirit made them emerge triumphant and create a unique space for themselves in a male-dominated film industry. The film is not a formal biopic or biography, as is being speculated. It is a work of fiction, and any character’s resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is coincidental,” it added.

The clarification comes after it was reported that the film’s producer, Ekta Kapoor, and director Milan Luthria were aware of the legal order. Silk’s brother Vara Prasad is also upset with the team because he feels that his sister is presented in an obscene manner. Tanuj Garg of Balaji Motion Pictures confirmed the notice by saying “We have recieved a notice and our legal team is looking into it,” but nothing as of yet has come of it.

The Dirty Picture is due for release on 2nd December, which coincidently is the birthday of Silk Smitha.
